CreativeLIVE Engagement Shoot.

•  31.January.2013

I’m so excited to be sharing these images from a recent engagement shoot I did alongside Jasmine Star and the team of CreativeLIVE. Jasmine reached out to me in the late part of 2012 and asked me to design/style an in-studio engagement session for her RESTART photography workshop she would be teaching here in Seattle in the month of January. I was all too thrilled to sign on, as creating for the sake of educational purposes is one of my favorite reasons to create, and working with Jasmine is always such a dream!

I was incredibly honored to be part of something bigger, and although I was SCARED outta my mind to be in front of a camera (the engagement session was filmed !LIVE! and streamed worldwide during the shoot) I knew it was an opportunity to really push myself, and create something that I thought would not only be enjoyed by beautiful Keaton & Maddie (the adorable couple we had the pleasure of working with) but also to the broader audience of Jasmine’s photography & creative community.

I’m not gonna lie – it’s always initially a bit nerve-wracking to design engagement shoots indoors especially when it’s in a blank space as bare and open as a empty photography studio. I wanted the shoot to still feel realistic, comfy and cozy despite the indoor location, therefore instantly gravitating towards the idea of re-creating a “home” environment. Home is that place where we feel most comfortable, most like ourselves…most able to let loose and really be free to be who we are. I incorporated vintage props and assorted colorful home decor to create the “at-home” vibe of the shoot. I saw the overarching mood and theme for the shoot to really reflect a “date night in”.

I created a comfy living area, juxtaposed by a “kitchen” with a green hutch and tabletop filled with snacks, hot cocoa and a sweet chocolate cake. I imagined the couple would spend the evening watching movies with popcorn in hand, playing board games on an open rug and enjoying the company of one another. I wanted the overall palette of the scene to be full of color, yet incredibly inviting and eye-catching with various patterns, shapes and textures. I loved the idea of doubling up on rugs (the kilim and alpaca rugs both from Michele and Ryan over at Homestead Seattle - if you haven’t had a chance to check out their amazing pieces you must! They ship nationwide!).

It was SO SO much fun being on set, styling during the shoot and working with Melissa, Ryan and Nikki (the incredibly brave photographers who were the on-set “students”) to get those shots that best reflected their new brand directions. The most exciting part of what I do is seeing everything come together in one beautiful moment (the couple, the props, the decor, the food, the flowers, the space, the people) during the shoot. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something as amazing as CreativeLIVE and am so appreciative of Jasmine for asking me to come along for the ride!

A special thank you to Julie, Kelli and Megan for their generous contributions to the shoot. Your additional props and support in getting everything ready and available for the day of the shoot was GREATLY appreciated! For additional images from the shoot see the feature over on Green Wedding Shoes (yipee! thanks Jen!) or over on Jasmine’s blog.
